Quality is evaluated differently across academic and professional fields. Therefore, evaluating inter- and transdisciplinary research is challenging. While research is usually evaluated ‘top-down’ based on indicators set by managers and funders, studies are emerging which trace how quality is evaluated ‘bottom-up’ within the practices of inter- and transdisciplinary researchers.

Building on these studies, Shanna Koppejan’s master’s thesis research unpacked how quality is evaluated in practice at the Centre for Unusual Collaborations. The aim is to feed locally emerging understandings and practices of ‘good’ research into wider debates about research quality.

In this Lunch & Learn session for the EWUU alliance, co-hosted by CUCo coordinator Megan Milota, Shanna will provide examples of expressions of quality arising in inter- and transdisciplinary research, which will serve as a starting point for a conversation about evaluating research quality.

The session takes place on Thursday, June 11, from 12:15 to 13:00, and will be hosted online (Teams).
