Improving Diabetes Care to Prevent Related Mental Disorders in Diverse Communities
3HOWs4DM, Inclusive Care, Brighter Minds, is a collaborative project by UMC Utrecht, Wageningen University, and TU/e, focused on improving diabetes care to prevent mental health disorders among ethnic minorities.
Diabetes mismanagement is one of the leading causes of mental health disorders and is often underserved by healthcare systems. The project aims to target ethnic minorities through inclusive, culturally sensitive solutions. It will address three key questions: “how to reach” individuals, “how to engage” them effectively, and “how to measure” disease markers.
By working closely with communities, respecting cultural traditions, and using innovative technology, we aim to create personalized solutions that make a difference. Our team combines research expertise (UMC Utrecht), socioecological context (Wageningen University), and advanced tools like wearable devices for blood sugar tracking and emotion-monitoring systems (TU/e).
Together, we aim to empower people, promote fairness in healthcare, and improve overall health outcomes. With this initiative, we are laying the foundation for more inclusive care and inspiring new partnerships to address the diverse needs of communities worldwide.
