The Multiple Faces of Health is a new one-year project (June 2024 – June 2025) interested in exploring the diverse meanings of health in society. As the title shows, we proceed from the premise that health means different things to different people, depending on parameters such as financial status, religion, cultural background, and so on. In a world characterized by increasing technologies for the maintenance of health and the care of the self, it is pertinent to understand what these might entail for the diverse populations that constitute contemporary society. We recognize that such a task is best achieved through an interdisciplinary lens that pays attention to the different ways people fashion their health goals. Hence we aim to examine the problem from the perspectives of literature and the arts, medicine, and animal welfare.
