Icebreaker: Paperclip, pen, paper

Purpose

Generate creativity and create awareness of perspective taking.

Description

With participants in inter- and transdisciplinary collaborations coming from different backgrounds, this activity helps to set the stage regarding analysing a problem from the position of each interested discipline/background and identify commonalities and differences.

Instructions

  1. Give each participant one paperclip, one pencil and one A4.
  2. Invite participants to make use of the paperclip in any way preferred, to create a drawing on the A4 in two minutes.
  3. Ask each participant to pass their drawing to the person sitting to their left.
  4. Ask each participant to give a title/description to the drawing.
  5. Put all drawings on a table and invite participants to check all drawings and identify commonalities and differences between interpretations of each drawing.
