The Structures of Strength (SoS) team set up an experiment as part of the lively Betweter festival – an event that brings together science, art, music and fun for a broad audience. SoS is one of the Unusual Collaborations teams, supported by CUCo (the Centre for Unusual Collaborations), now for its second year. At Betweter festival SoS offered the visitors to perform experiments and also to travel in porous material using virtual reality (VR). They let the audience see and experiment with porous materials across different disciplines including: soil, sand-filter for water treatment, filtration by human kidney, lowering ink usage during inkjet printing, and mixing of muesli grains in breakfast. They also let the audience do experiments that show how global warming and increase in temperature can damage soils and make them repel soil water. The video shows the experimental setup and the great ambience that it brought.
